| The 50 plus class is an active, but gentle approach to Iyengar Yoga, emphasizing correct alignment in the poses (asanas), while developing strength, balance and awareness of breath. Participants work in a variety of traditional standing, seated and floor postures that stretch and invigorate the body while quieting the mind. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace, within the parameters of their own abilities and limitations. Props are readily available when needed to help students work in poses that may be particularly challenging for them. | ||||

Katrina took her 1st yoga class in 1985 after a combination of experiencing a back injury and a need to increase her flexibility, over the years she has developed a great passion for the art and science of yoga. In 2003 she enrolled in the Yoga Room’s Advanced Studies program. She is currently the in-house yoga instructor for Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Programs. She teaches an Iyengar-based class using props to discover the ease and peace that comes with ones body when it is safely aligned and supported.
Yoga promotes health, balance and prevents disease. B.K.S Iyengar developed the use of props so that everybody type regardless of strength and flexibility can discover the accessibility to yoga. The use of props-blocks, straps and bolsters distinguishes Iyengar yoga from other forms of hatha yoga, so everyone regardless of body type can enjoy the benefits of yoga in proper alignment |
